What we buy

Wire and cable only. If it carries current, we will look at it — transformers, switchgear and plant equipment are not our line.

We are interested in new surplus, unused material, overstock, cancelled-project inventory, discontinued stock and suitable surplus cable from closed warehouses. We do not promise to buy every item regardless of condition: send photos and details, and we will tell you plainly whether the material is something we can place.

What a cancelled project leaves behind

A cancelled job rarely leaves one neat reel. It leaves a pallet of mixed lengths, a partial 500 ft reel of 4/0, three cartons of #12, a coil of grounding wire and a 15kV reel that was never unwound. We review mixed lots as well as single reels, and we will separate what is worth buying from what is not.

Wire types and sizes we consider

Every category below is a page you can read before you send photos, so you know what details help us price the material.

Common sizes we look for

Sizes run from small branch-circuit conductor to large feeder and service cable. We regularly review #14, #12, #10, #8, #6, #4, #2, #1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 250, 300, 350, 400, 500, 600, 750 and 1000 MCM. Unusual sizes, parallel runs and odd stranding are still worth a photo — the tag on the reel usually tells the whole story.

Inventory format matters less than condition. Full reels, partial reels, wooden and metal reels, spools, coils, cartons, unused cut lengths and warehouse stock are all reviewed. A 60 ft tail on a 500 ft reel is a different conversation than a sealed factory reel, but both can have value.

Who we buy from

Anyone holding legitimate surplus wire, from a two-person shop to a facility decommissioning a whole floor.

How it works

Four steps, no obligation, and no pressure to accept a number you do not like.

  1. Send details and photos

Use the quote form or call. Reel faces, jacket legends, tags and cut ends tell us the construction, the size and the manufacturer.

  2. We review and quote

We check the construction, condition, length and how the material sits before making an offer. Mixed lots are reviewed item by item.

  3. Agree the terms

If the material works for us, we agree on price, what is included and who handles removal. Nothing moves until both sides agree.

  4. Pickup or shipping

For larger lots in DC and Maryland we arrange collection. Smaller reel quantities can ship. Loading access decides which route is practical.

Washington, DC & Maryland coverage

We buy from businesses across the District and the whole state of Maryland — not just the Beltway.

Surplus wire turns up in different forms across the region. A Capitol Hill rowhouse renovation produces short lengths and service cable. A Montgomery County lab fit-out produces shielded control cable and clean grounding conductor. A Baltimore warehouse clearance produces pallets of mixed building wire. A Western Maryland plant shutdown produces tray cable and medium-voltage reels that were never energised. The common thread is unused material that no longer has a job to go to.

No local office claims

We buy wire in Washington, DC and Maryland and we travel to review material, but we do not claim a staffed office, warehouse or yard in every city named on this site. If a page lists your city, it means we buy surplus wire from businesses there — not that a branch address exists.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you buy partial reels and cut lengths?

Yes, if there is enough usable length on the reel and the condition is sound. A partial reel with 300 ft of clean #4 THHN is worth reviewing. Short tails of a few feet are usually not, unless they are part of a larger lot.

  • How do you price surplus wire?

We look at the construction, metal, size, voltage rating, condition, length and current demand for that material, then make an offer based on what we can realistically place. Metal value sets the floor; whether the reel is a construction a contractor can use next week sets the rest.

  • Do you buy wire that has been installed and removed?

Sometimes. Unused material is the priority, but removed cable that was never cut, never wet and still has legible markings can be reviewed. Label it as used when you submit it so we assess it correctly.

  • Can you collect from our yard or jobsite?

For larger lots in Washington, DC and Maryland we arrange collection. Tell us about dock access, forklift availability, reel weights and any gate or delivery-window restrictions when you submit the request.

  • Do you buy transformers, switchgear or breakers?

No. Wire and cable are the only things we purchase. Transformers, switchgear, breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery and vehicles are outside our scope.

  • How many photos should I send?

Three to five well-lit photos usually answer the important questions: an overall shot of the reel, a close-up of the jacket legend, the tag or label, and the cut end showing conductor count and stranding. Keep the total under 10 MB.
