SELL SURPLUS ELECTRICAL WIRE IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND

Airport-adjacent industrial parks, Hanover distribution buildings and Annapolis institutional work all produce cable that outlives its project. We buy it, review it and collect it.

Heavy reels staged on pallets. Footage, jacket condition and reel integrity are what get reviewed.

Anne Arundel County divides cleanly at I-97. West of it, around Glen Burnie, Linthicum, Hanover and Odenton, the county is industrial and distribution-driven, with BWI Marshall at the center and business parks filling the space between the airport and the highway interchanges. East of it, Annapolis and the bay communities run on government, institutional, hospitality and marine work.

Both halves generate surplus wire, but not the same wire. Distribution buildings and airport-adjacent facilities turn over large feeder, tray cable and controls when a tenant changes or a conveyor line is rebuilt. Annapolis work is smaller and fussier: service upgrades in old buildings, renovations behind historic facades, and institutional projects that arrive in phases over several budget cycles.

Our business is wire and cable. Contractors, plant maintenance departments, distributors, warehouse operators and institutional property managers across Anne Arundel County send us what they no longer need. Switchgear, transformers, breakers, MCCs, generators and vehicles are not what we buy, whatever their size. Material is inspected in place before any figure is discussed.

Where surplus wire comes from in Anne Arundel County

  • BWI Marshall and Linthicum — terminal, hangar, cargo and airport-adjacent business-park projects generate feeder, fire-alarm cable, apron and site-lighting URD, and shielded control cable, with badging rules attached to the site.
  • Hanover and the Route 100 industrial parks — distribution centers and office-warehouse buildings leave tray cable, THHN feeder, panel-to-panel runs and lighting circuits when a tenant fit-out is reworked.
  • Annapolis government and institutional work — state office buildings, the Naval Academy area and historic-district renovations produce service cable, MC branch wiring, fire-alarm and grounding conductors in modest, awkward lots.
  • Glen Burnie and the Route 2 corridor — older industrial buildings and commercial strips release motor leads, SOOW cord, service-entrance cable and control wiring from equipment replacements.
  • Odenton and Fort Meade-adjacent offices — secure-office and campus fit-outs turn out Cat 6, tray cable, rack feeder and access-control cable when a floor is re-cabled.
  • Pasadena and the MD-2 waterfront — marina, pier and waterside property work leaves shore-power cable, dock-lighting URD and flexible cord, often in short lengths.

Wire types we see most in Anne Arundel County

This county produces more three-phase industrial cable per square mile than most of Maryland, and it is one of the few places where 5kV and 15kV material turns up in ordinary commercial quantities. Most of the building wire is copper, and a good share of it arrives wound on reels rather than boxed in coils.

Who we buy from in Anne Arundel County

We hear most often from contractors based between Glen Burnie and Annapolis who keep a storage bay of part-reels, and from facility engineers at warehouse and campus properties who have inherited material from three tenants and two contractors. Distributors with a discontinued size, marine suppliers clearing shore-power stock and institutional maintenance departments all send us lots as well.

  • Contractors with part-reels and storage-bay overflow
  • Distributors and marine suppliers with slow-moving inventory
  • Warehouse and distribution-center facility managers
  • Airport-adjacent and industrial park tenants after a fit-out
  • State, county and institutional maintenance departments
  • Mechanical, controls and marina service contractors

Pickup and access across Anne Arundel County

Route 50, I-97, I-695 and MD-2 carry almost everything in this county, and the industrial parks off Route 100 and Aviation Boulevard are built for trailers: docks, forklifts, wide aprons and turning room. A 53-foot trailer is normally the right vehicle west of I-97. Congestion around the I-97 and Route 50 interchange is the main scheduling constraint, not the site itself.

Annapolis is the opposite. Downtown blocks near Church Circle and the City Dock have narrow streets, angled parking, no alleys and loading that has to happen from the street in a permitted window. Reels that would take ten minutes at a Hanover dock can take an hour there, and a liftgate is usually required. Institutional campuses on the Annapolis neck sit somewhere in between, with gatehouses and fixed delivery hours.

Where a reel is too heavy for a liftgate, the lifting equipment is our problem to solve, not yours. What we need in return is an accurate weight and an honest description of the ground: gravel, grade and soft shoulders after rain all change what can be brought in.

What we need from you

Send the count of reels, coils and spools, the construction and size, a footage or weight estimate, and whether the jacket and the reel have held up. Photographs of the cut end, the jacket printing and the reel tag carry more weight than a written description. If the cable is medium voltage, note the voltage class and whether the insulation and semi-con have been exposed.

Every submission gets a decision rather than a maybe. Where part of a lot does not work, we identify that portion and explain the reasoning, so a second conversation starts further along.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you buy medium-voltage cable in Anne Arundel County?

Yes. 5kV and 15kV EPR and XLPE constructions, shielded with concentric neutral, are reviewed regularly from campus and industrial distribution work. Voltage class, insulation condition and whether the ends have been exposed all matter, so photograph the tag and the cut end.

  • Can you collect from an airport-adjacent building near BWI?

That depends on the site rules rather than the material. Airside and secure-side properties require badging and an escort, and some require material release paperwork before anything leaves. Tell us the constraints and we will confirm whether the access works before scheduling.

  • Is small-lot material from Annapolis worth submitting?

Often, yes, particularly if it is accumulated rather than a single coil. Several jobs worth of MC, service cable and grounding conductor held in a maintenance room is a reasonable lot. One part-used coil on its own rarely justifies a dedicated trip.

  • Do you buy shore-power and marina cable?

We review shore-power cord, dock-lighting URD and marine-grade flexible cable. Sun exposure and jacket condition are the deciding factors on waterfront material, so include a photo of the jacket rather than the coil end alone.

  • Do you cover the Eastern Shore side of the Bay Bridge?

Yes. We buy across Maryland, and material in Annapolis is frequently combined with lots further east. A collection route across the bridge is straightforward when the volumes justify it.
